The chapter on internal combustion engine analysis is a very good example of simple mechanisms in action. Not a book but a collection of review articles

The problem with the book is that it is not a book at all: it is a collection of 12 articles which vary enormously in their style and level. Some are excellent, like Richard Fair's RTP chapter, but many are run-of-the-mill reviews. A welcomed addition is that wafer cleaning and clean room technology have chapters of their own, usually they tend to be regarded as side issues. Editors have not syncronized the chapters: planarization is discussed twice: in both CVD and process integration chapters and silicides three times: in RTP, metallization and process integration.
The book is not specifically about ULSI: it is a general overview of silicon (mostly MOS) process technologies, or at least I do not consider molecular beam epitaxy, contact lithography or bias sputtered quartz as ULSI technologies. Maybe this is for textbook completeness, but then why is oxidation absent ?
The intended audience of this book remains a mystery to me: in the preface it is described as a textbook (for senior undergraduates or first year graduate students) but the structure of the book does not support a fabrication course because many essential items have been left out: e.g. oxidation and ion implantation.
Most chapters contain 50-100 references to literature, but to old literature: process integration chapter ("totally revised and updated") average date of references is 1987, with only a handful of 1990's articles.

This book is merely a collection of articles written by various authorities in the field. Sze probably put the end of chapter problems in it (most of which are challenging) which do not closely reflect the chapter's theme. In that sense, this is a BAD book - the correlation is awful. As far as just reading the chapters, some of the chapters are well written and this book merits 3 stars. I think it is safe to say there are better books (real textbooks by one or two authors) out there pertaining to the field of VLSI Fabrication.

About the Editor in Chief
Merrill I. Skolnik, known worldwide for his leadership in radar research and development, has been affiliated with the Johns Hopkins Radiation Laboratory, Sylvania, MIT Lincoln Laboratory, the Research Division of Electronic Communications Inc., the Institute for Defense Analyses, and the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory. He received his doctorate in electrical engineering from Johns Hopkins University, where he also earned B.E. and M.S.E. degrees. He is the author of the leading college textbook on radar, Introduction to Radar Systems (McGraw-Hill), now in its second edition, and the editor of Radar Applications.

He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, a Fellow of the IEEE, and has served as editor of the Proceedings of the IEEE.

Buy this book! I spent 3 years overseas in the USAF as an Electronic Warfare Systems tech, If you value information on RADAR fundamentals, you will buy this book. It provides the full range from basic theory to applications requiring integral calculus. You Will Learn from this book! The bulk is focussed on radar applications and theory. There are sections on ECM(Electronic Countermeasures). This is the only book that I have found to compile good information in one place...It IS the HANDBOOK. Yes, it's expensive, but it's worth it. Chip in and get a copy for your unit. For ECM troops, If you value your pilot's lives--READ and LEARN!

An Excellent Radar Reference Book

The day after I bought this book, I made a mistake telling a colleague about it, after which it was very difficult to track it down who has it and who is using it in a team of several Radar Engineers. They had all used it as a definitive reference book on any aspect of Radar design - it covers everything that you need to know and want to know right NOW about a Radar clearly and accurately.
If you are a newcomer and designing a Radar then buy a copy of 'Introduction to Radar' by Skolnik, which has a great source of information for the beginners and up and running Design Engineers, i.e. a good primer.

Introduction to black sociology

I have purchased a number of books on-line. This is the first book that I have been disappointed and frustrated with. The book arrived in a timely fashion but is heavily highlighted throughout and in two different colors (pink and yellow)! I was expecting something of a much higher quality. I would love to have a much less marked up vertion. Maybe I have just been lucky in the past?

Very skimpy and uneven explanations

There are many questions of beginning statistics which this book either has very skimpy and unsatisfactory answers or has no answers at all. For example, the book goes directly from explaining normal distribution to binomial distribution except that it never quite explains binomial distribution except from graphs. Granted, statistics concepts are very hard to explain in words. But the book seems to breeze through many important concepts with one sentence or two.

5)Sampling Distributions
6)Estimation and Sample Size Determination
7)Tests of Hypothesis (one and two populations)

Overall, I barely recommend this book for those who are beginning statistics (intended audience).
