I was looking for a book to help me design HVAC systems. This isn't it. It is a book full of mathematical equations and reference tables which could be applied if you already new how to do the design.
I did the best I could to read the reviews of the book before purchase, but couldn't make that determination. Even then, having lots of data is great, but barely a word of guidance. ie. Not some useful instruction and lots of tables to apply. No instruction, just tables.
Obviously, there were some words there, but not many.

Good Resource for the Science Teacher's Library

This book offers 42 activities, evenly distributed among K-3, 4-6, and 7-9. As is often the case with such resources, those categories meant little to my eighth grade students or me. If you are a teacher, you know that you can adapt almost any activity to make it fit your needs.
The activities all include the following well developed sections: key science topics, key process skills, time required, materials - for getting ready - for introducing the activity - for the procedure - for variations and extensions, safety and disposal, getting ready, introducing the activity, procedure, variations and extensions, explanation, assessment options, cross-curricular integration, and some of the activities also have hand-out masters. (I wish they all did, but the assessment options provided are a good substitute.)
My only problem with the book is that some of the activities do require the purchase of a real toy. I found that sometimes this resulted in a time-consuming quest. I put an asterisk after those activities requiring items I found difficult to locate (but eventually did).

Although this book has what seem to be some really fun and illustrative experiments, I was a bit put off with how many toys and other prepatory materials I will need to purchase. Since I home school my daughter, I will be buying things for one time use. I'm not sure how much I will actually use this book.

AFTER READING THE SYNOPSIS OF THIS BOOK I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION I WAS BUYING A BOOK THAT WOULD BE BENIFICIAL TO THE ENTIRE PROCESS OF CONTRACT PAINTING. HOWEVER, WHILE IT SAYS THERE IS MUCH INFORMATION ON PREP WORK, THERE ISN'T. THIS BOOK IS FOR THE PAINTER WHO WANTS TO KNOW HOW TO ESTIMATE JOBS BETTER. THATS IT. SURE IT GIVES COMMON TIPS ON RESUME AND ADVERTISING, BUT DOES NOT COVER OTHER THINGS. THIS BOOK IS FOR THE PROFESSIONAL THAT ALREADY HAS CLEAR KNOWLEDGE OF HOW HIS/HER CREW CAN WORK, AND WHAT THEIR OUT PUT RATE IS BUT NEEDS TO KNOW MORE THIS BOOK CAN HELP YOU.

Best for starting a painting business

The worthiness of this book is inside the covers not in the sticker price. It goes into depth on how to start and manage a painting business. It gives basically everything there is to know for maintaining a successful painting business. Whether a person wants to do it small or big.
I am about to start my own small painting business and I am glad I got this book. I had no idea how much there is to know for getting into this business without previous experience. I was going to fail from the very begining. This book opened my eyes. It is not just having a painting skills.
I will recommend this book to enyone that wants to get into painting business without previous experience in this field. You'll see how much more you need to know for a success on the side of possessing a good painting skills.
If you'll never done any painting you also need "Paint your home: Skills, Techniques, and Tricks of the Trade for Professional Looking Interior Painting".

Great book, no software

This is a operations management book for painting contractors. It is a very good book. But for it to be of any use, the contractor must invest time to create or change existing procedures. I would have given it five stars, but the software doesn't work. Next, I'll review McGraw-Hill's customer service operations. PS. Mr. Gleason wrote another book with data and software for estimating. I only previewed it, but it looks like a good tool.

One of Robert Shook's first bits of wisdom for salespeople is that enthusiasm is contagious. He proves this in his latest book, which crackles with his own palpable excitement for the topic of sales and the anecdotes that he's compiled to illustrate his points. He peppers his introductions with slang and cliches. Oddly, this is a plus, making the writing honest, human and real. The book is simply and concisely organized. Great Book

If you're in sales-your gonna love this book. Many of these stories are classic sales stories about achieving sales success. I believe the best way to learn how to do anything is find a role model. Find someone who has done it. That what this book does. It shows you many real life examples of what really works in the sales business. Read, enjoy and apply them into your situation. Highly recommended.

Ed Sherman is a well-known boating writer and educator, and the author of two International Marine books: Outboard Engines (1997) and Powerboater's Guide to Electrical Systems (2000). He is the assistant director of education at the American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC), the country's preeminent standard-making body, where he designs and teaches teacher-training programs in marine technology fields, including marine electrical systems. Prior to that, he taught marine electronics for many years at the New England Institute of Technology, in Warwick, RI, where he was chairman of the marine technology department. Great info for 99% of outboard owners

I'm not quite sure what the reviewer from Raleigh, N.C. expected from this book. It is clearly not written with the intent of teaching you how to tear down and rebuild outboard motors. The editor's review above clearly says that. But If you are looking for a good common sense all-round outboard motor troubleshooting guide, then this book, combined with the specific shop manual for your motor, some moderately cheap test equipment (which you may have a lot of already) and anyone with a descent mechanical aptitude will probably be able to fix 90% of all the problems they will ever encounter with an outboard motor. The other 10% I personally will leave to the pros. It will also teach you how to avoid a lot of problems in the first place which is the biggest savings when your talking outboards. I am just a hobbyist, not a mechanic and this book has already helped me get two old motors back up and running and has been well worth its price to me. The book is well organized and is easy to understand. The author keeps things simple and down to earth and isn't trying to impress anyone with a bunch of techno-jargon. Sure the text could have been larger, maybe the pictures a little better, but hey what's perfect for everyone?

This is an excellent source of information. If you are a "first-time boat buyer" and are meticulous about the "health" of your boat, search no more! This is THE guide to use. This book is so filled with useful information that I've summarized parts of the book to create a maintenance guide for my boat. If you're not the type that likes to get your hands dirty, at least this book will give you the information to have an "intelligent" conversation with your mechanic!
